I started running back when I was in primary school doing the XC races around Aberdeenshire. This carried on when we went up to academy but then fizzled out when I decided to concentrate my time on playing football. I carried on playing football up until I was about 28 when during this time I would do the local Run Garioch 10k but that was it. I then stopped playing football and running for almost 2 years till I moved to Insch in 2014 and got speaking to a certain Jeni-Reece Jenkins who said I should come a run with her up Bennachie….yeah whatever….! So I stuck on my trainers (had no idea you got trail shoes back then) and went along and although I was dying I loved it! I was converted and got my running mojo back!! Who knew that 3 years later we would have our own club of awesome runners who all push themselves in training and in races to achieve their best and smash their goals!!
Personally, I train as much as I can. Having a young family makes it hard to get out sometimes especially when i see everyone else out on the trail but I do what I have too (6am runs around Kirkhill, Lunchtimes on the road around Dyce at work etc.) so when I can train I make the most of it and have seen amazing results in the past year with PBs at almost every race which I have surprised myself with so need to keep re adjusting my goals..…I also just need to keep that minute ahead of Graham 😉
This year’s main events are Lairig Ghru in June and Ring of Steall Skyrace in September and I may also go for a sub 3.05 marathon in October at Loch Ness but will decide closer to the time.
